THE HISTORY OF OUR CLUB

The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of football.

Washington Juniors are one of a few clubs within the Sunderland area to be awarded Charter Standard Community Club status by the Football Association, the club is also a registered charity.

Washington Juniors Football Club was formed in 1990 by Eddie Ord and Dek Spencer. At the time they formed a Under 10s team ( Photo ) who were one of the first junior teams in the country to be invited into a youth league. From then on the club has grown from strength to strength, with teams in all age groups from 6yrs old to an adult team including Girls. The club currently runs in partnership with "FIRST4KIDZ and we hold Saturday morning Development sessions for 3 to 5 yr olds who will form future development teams within the club. The club currently has in excess of 240 players registered within the club. The Club achieved Charter Standard Status in 2003 and continues to have it renewed due to the high standards we promote. In October 2010 the Club became a registered Charity, the benefit of this is that it goes along way to assist with securing funds for the club. In November 2010 Washington Juniors achieved Charter Standard Community Club accreditation, in the words of the FA..." Many congratulations to you and all the volunteers within Washington Juniors Football Club in achieving The FA Charter Standard Community Club accreditation, the pinnacle of The FA programme. By achieving the accreditation The FA formally recognises your club as one that is not only committed to raising standards throughout grassroots football but also as a club that has demonstrated its commitment to the local community, We are one of few football clubs within the Washington area to have achieved this. All coaches within the club are qualified through the FA, with regular refresher courses to maintain qualifications. We have Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches and at present a coach undergoing a level 3 Qualification. All coaches are CRB checked and are qualified in Safeguarding Children and First Aid.

We also have coaches who are qualified in coaching people with disabilities as well as having players within the club already who have disabilities, one of our projects for the future is to have a disability team playing within the disability leagues.

At the end of the season we hold a Presentation Evening, which is probably the best in the area. All players receive a trophy for representing the club through the season as well as individual trophies for players who have improved throughout the season. We have Guests to present trophies, in the past we have had, Eric Gates, Michael Nelson ( Norwich City Captain ), John Beresford, Marco Gabbiadini, Malcolm Macdonald and Micky Horswill and Rob Lee. We are always looking for players to join our club, so if you are interested contact us. At the end of the 2009/2010 season Eddie Ord retired as Secretary of the club. The current Secretary is Nigel Ridley who has been with the club since 1997 and is currently running our Under 17s Team. The club also has a parents committee who hold regular meetings with the Club Managers and Management Committee. All members of the parents committee are all CRB checked, are all qualified First Aiders and have completed the Child Protection safeguarding course through the FA.

The club are always looking for sponsors to help fund the club and to assist in its continued growth and expansion.
